I am going to get a black rhom and put it in my 75. I am trying to decide on the size. I can get a great deal on a big boy and I did a little research and read they don't need much room. True?

Yes a black rhom could live in a 75g for most of its life but would recommend upgrading to a 125 sooner or later because they can get pretty big. Also I am sure he would be a lot happier in a 125 once he reaches over 12 inches or so. Just my opinion.

75 could house him up to about 14-15 (wich will take years)inches then u should move iut to a 24inch wide tank, and atleast 5 feet long

if you get a black rhom 7-8 inches or smaller, a 75 gallon will be fine for years to come. they grow extremely slow past the 5-6 inch mark. generally 1 inch or less per year.

Hi!
Just saw Ur post.
I agree with the rest of the fellas: 75 gals will be nice for a while for your Rhom, but U gonna buy/build another tank, something between 100 and 125 gals later.

...my opinion...

Piranhas (and any other nervous/shy fish) do better in square tanks. they're not overly active but can produce powerful jerks when frightened. With a large black rhom, it can hurt itself and/or fracture your glass.

They only need a lot of room if you are planning to house a shoal of them as in RBP's or Caribes. In the case of a Rhom where you are only going to have one fish I agree with the others that your 75 should be fine until the fish grows extremely large which will take many years.
