Well my father has been building custom fishin rods for about 40yrs. And i have been at it for about 15yrs. My father has big following here in ky and builds about 50-60 rods a year. Most of our buisness is from catfisherman(80%) and bass fishers(20%). I get the itch every now and then and build my self a rod. Mostly cuase i want something that is different than just about anything you can find in a store. i purposely build my rods extremely flashy. Cause its what i like. And my Dad says its a good idea cause since i started building these bright rods they have been attention geters and have brought in buisness. So thats my story -----------------------------------Do any of you own or build custom rods. If so lets see those pics. Here's a couple of mine

When I was younger my Dad used to build rods as a hobby, he's since gotten out of it, but I still have some of the rods he built.

your rods look unreal, do you sell/ship your rods? any type of pricing?

Alright man lets see em. i am glad you all liked them. For most people they are too bright and flashy, but everyone has there style I guess. I wish i had more pictures really, we have built some really nice rods in the past. We mainly use cork for the handles but we have used oak/poplar/ maple/ cherry when a customer wants it. The last higher dollar rod we built was actually for a guy in florida and it was a 10ft heavy action rod that was a candy red color and had a cherry and walnut split ring handle. The handle had a twist effect to it like a spiral stair case the went walnut-cherry-walnut cherry-etc in a 1/4 ring layout all the way to the reel. It took many hours to turn the rings out on the lathe and then we had to saw them in 4's and glue it all on peice by peice. And then turn the glued up handle down and shape it. Then seal it and coat it with clear. We added some mother of pearl powder to the clear for a translucent effect. We had about 20-30 hours just on the handle. When we got done i wanted to keep it and dad said well then pay up. haha

expensive and certainly not for every angler. But when looking at the price try to think of what you would charge for 20 hours of labor on average plus materials..-----------So that being said if anyone is interested in a custom rod just pm me with a idea of what you want and I will get a price for ya. We can handle anything from a 4' ultralight to a 15' beach rod. And everything in between. Most of our buisness is in the 7'-10' range in etheir 2peice or single. But i have to warn you shipping a 10' rod is outrageous.

i dont, but by the time i have finished trying to put mine together, reel, line, hook, weight etc it may aswell be lol
i only fish when im out in the florida and this year there isnt my aunts and her husband (the only man brave enough to come on holiday with 6 women lol) to help me with it. so can anyone give me a few pointers? or just come to the place and do it for me lol...i no i will end up hooking myself!

thats one bad looking rod :headbang2but y do you coat the handles i would hate that i would have to add fishing rod gripe tape so it dont slip out of my hand. I would build my own but its a little expenssive to just jump on in maybe i will slowly but some of the equipment untill i have enough to make my own.
