does anybody know anything about snooks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Males can get very large, around 20 inches, while females stop growing at about a foot. They aren't very aggressive, so they can be kept with smaller fish. They are piscivorus (or however you spell the word that means "eats fish") and have expandable mouths similar to datnoids and basketmouth cichlids.

Try not put too much food in with them at once because their mouths are enormous and so they jam them full of food then spit it out and make a mess once they realize that they cant chew or swallow all that food at once.

We disagree with "not very aggressive".Our snook beat the crap out of a peacock bass twice his size.We think each fish is different. They have huge mouths and if you keep them with small fishes they will probably become a snack.

Well, that's cause Pbass are big pussies. :)

As far as Central American cichlids go, snook are quite laid back. Except if the fish can fit in their huge mouths.

Sizes are more along the lines of 14" for females and 16-18" for males.

Come over to my friends house and watch his Orinos in his 900 gallon..........you'll change your mind;) .

But yeah Snook are GENERALLY pretty mild and peaceful as long as they can't fit others in their ginormous mouths.

temensis peacock bass are wimps?since when? Our snooks were in a tank full of vejas and still kicked ass.

Tems aren't bad, Orinos are usually the more aggressive Pbass.
You seem to have the exceptionally rude Snooks lol.

I've caught plenty of Pbass on light tackle (2-4lb range), and they fight well, but they're oppurtunistc piscivores, that's different than being aggressive. The 1lb red devils would put up as good a fight, and hit just as hard. :P

Back on topic (semi) if your snook could handle viejas, it was a freak. I'm on the lookout for normal morph snook myself.

Heres some pics of a Snooks mouth. The clear mouth part is very fine/thin.
