Hey:

I was wondering if anybody would be able to identify what is wrong with my big guy. The first pic is of him normal, the last three are of some kind of bloating or infection that he has on his bottom side. Any help would be grateful

It looks like it's either a boil type infection or considering the location some type of impaction it's difacult to tell. Try treating with an epsom salt bath dosed at 1 tbls per gallon. Desolve epsom salt in some tank water using a container large enough to hold the fish. Place the fish in the bath for 15 to 20 mins max obesrving the fish during the time it's in the solution. This can be very stressful for the fish so it's important for you to monitor the fish the entire time. If the fish show extream signs of distress remove it immediatly. One the bath is finished place the fish back into its tank. The epsom salt will draw the fulid from the abcess if that's what it is or hopfuly loosen the impaction if that is what it is. Do not feed the fish for a few days so you don't add any additional pressure to the area. Keep us posted. This is my best advice from what I can see. If you can supply any other info I will keep an eye on this thread.

Has it pooed lately?

Try the epsom salt 1st and see how that goes, before any meds.

What about skinned peas as a laxative? Pretty harmless compared to medication. I know I'd be hurtin' if I didn't take a dump in a few days...

Yes a skinned pea would work as a laxative but my initial concern is I don't know if it's an impaction or an abcess. The epsom salt will help either buy drawing out excess fluid if it's and infection or acting as a laxative if is an impaction. If it's an abcess and you give it a pea the pressure could cause a rupture and a septic situation. So I thought the best course of action would be the safest 1st.

Is he allways swimming like that, snout down? Better pix of the thing that ruptured?

On another note, love the mastiff in your avatar. Yours?
