Does anybody know what kind of lifespan a reticulated stingray has if they live to old age? Also about what age can you expect a retic to become sexually matur? Both males and females.

I have 3 retics in a 500 gal. aqurium, they are approx 2 years old if the guess on their age was correct when I got them. I have had them for 1.5 years. The female is nearing 11 inches and my male is at about 9.5 ~ 10 inches. His claspers have not unrolled yet so I know he is not quite there. My third ray I know is not even close but the other 2 I worry about. We have had some biting in the tank so I think we may be getting close. I have silver dollars, bala sharks, clown loaches, and several other friendly fish. If we have babies can I expect that they should make it with these tank mates?
Sorry for all the questions. These are questions I can't seem to find in the search and I haven't run across them while researching them. Any advice would be great here. Thank you everybody for a wonderful site and a world of knowledge.

the big ones my friend had were said to be 5 years old. 12" give or take.. the person that had them kept them in decrepid conditions but the male had rolled claspers... as far as what age they will breed at i dont know.. just keep there water clean and them fed well and it should happen..

Bump back to the top

Come on sting ray peoples give us some opinions here

We are very curious, and we know there are others out there with big Retics.

im thinking the female isnt there yet, i have a 8-9" male motoro that has breed twice for me, once the female matured, he matured really quickly, i would say that they should both be getting close

i dont think really many people breed them... they are so cheap wild and most people kill them long before they even get that size... ill ask a few people in europe if they have any input.. but even if you have to mature rays it does not mean they will breed

Very true Nic! I am just more curious than anything. I do plan on getting 2 more another female and another male. I like these rays...I know they are just boring brown rays. But I think the hobby undervalues them. They are fun little rays with awesome personalities. I think they act like puppies. Any more input would be great.

all rays are fun rays with awesome personalities ;) some just look alot nicer than others :)........ if your going to go for another pair of retics try and get the red ones... they breed real small and are nice as well :) be nice investment and something a little different

I will look into those. Don't they lose their "red color" as they get bigger and older? Will the reds breed with the regular retics?

ughhhh I thought with all the knowledgable people on here I would get a bit more of a response to these questions.
