on my old 75 gallon i used a 24" light almost all the way blocked out with cardboard to dim the light and on my 36" tank i use the same 24" light mostly blocked off with cardboard i use aquaglo bulbs i like the nice light but dimmed down does anyone else do this

i used to use tinfoil. then it can get as hot as it wants.

thats a good idea i love the way aquaglo bulbs look and love powerglos but they a lil pricey but there so bright i prefer dimmer light and i think my fish do to the only problem is i end up with dark spots blocking the light off

hmm was looking threw old threads has anyone ever done a piece of cloth under the light if so howd it work for you what color did you use

paint your glass tops or glass strip in the light

I like to let the hard water build up and turn the pretty clear glass a hazy cataract color to dim my lights :-)

Just a though but you could get another sheet of glass or acrylic from Home Depot paint that, or scuff it up so that it doesn't allow so much light.

I remember when I tried a planted tank, I was always cleaning the glass bellow the light. Water would splash on it, then the intense light would make a thick coat of algae grow.
