Does anyone else think it's a little messed up to catch a fish in the wild and turn around and sell it? Is that even legal? I'm not talking some far off country but here in the U.S. and i'm not talking about catching a fish that don't belong their anyway like all the cichlids. I'm talking about bass, gars, etc. I don't have no problem with catching and keeping them in your aquarium or even giving them away to someone to put in their tank. But just to make a profit off it seems a little messed up. What do you think?

I don't know if it is legal where you live but here in Alberta I know you would be fined depending on the breed of fish. There may be some that it might be ok but I am not sure. The way we are taxed in this world if you can do it legally and make some money go for it.

I know that different states have different laws and they're usually about different fish also. Are you talking about the gold fish that is being sold on here?

As long as it is done legally and in a sustainable manner, it shouldn't really matter where the fish are caught. It would bother me only if it was a threatened or declining population of fish, in which case it is equally bad whether it is done in the U.S. or any other country.

IMO all of the fish we have at some point where caught in the wild and then sold. Now, because of capitalism, supply and demand, they are raised in captivity and sold. As long as it isn't ans endangered species I really don't mind.

In other countries it normally comes down to some fisherman trying to feed his family. With no real other options. I have no problem with that being done in a sustainable manner. But just someone just grabbing fish to make a quick buck don't feel right.

Some states have laws against selling wild caught native fish. Here in PA, you can trade or give away wild caught natives but you cannot sell them without permits and such.
