Lately my mate and i have been goin to our local dam of the night and goin netting!! ususally we catch hundreds of little mosquito fish, but the last few times we've been we've caught carp, water beetles, some other lil silver fish that we cant I.D and Red Fin...

My mate has 2 in a lil holding tank and we are fascinated with them...Does anyone keep this fish or hae any information on them? If so it would be greatly appreciated, Cheers!

Are red fin perch just 'perch' (I think thats what UK people call them - well I heard them being called red fins by rex hunt, so I'm assuming thats what they are).

If so, I had an uncle who kept one when he was a kid he told me, of course he didn't really know what he was doing and when it got too big released it back to where he caught it (a private pond owned by his friend). He said they were intresting to watch, especially at feeding he said.

Perca fluviatilis. We call them Redfin, but they are aso called European perch, English perch and Eurasian perch. They are native to Europe, so I would assume they would be just Perch to you.

Our murray cod love lunching on these guys.

Or if you live in England 'Perch'

I've never heard of anyone keeping them over here, they will eat a lot of small fish in no time at all.

Just for info..... The rod caught record has just gone over here at 6lbs 2oz
