I have a tank of Polys, and one of them my Endli digs himself under the sand.. im just curious has anyone else seen this from one of their bichirs? i have six and only this one does this. ive caugh glimpse of my ornate swimming into the sand as well but he doesn't stay. my endli will stay there for hours. and does anyone know why he does this? i have plenty of hideing spots more than enough for each of them. why hide in the sand?securedownloadcx.jpg

My endli does that all the time as well. Not sure why.

Yes, a lot of polys do this. Actually i had a thread on this showing my delhezi digging, an dhow he taught my palmas palmas how to dig along with 2 of senegalus, my weeksii, and my beuttikoferi. Now that i got another del he's taught him to it's a really cool thing to watch. As far as why, they do it surprise prey when they swim buy it also hides them from other predators. They do it a lot when they are larger to conserve energy, instead of (like when they are young) swim around and chase after things.

Just my theory, it's because of polys eat mollusks, crustaceans that digs into substrates, basically they're hunting for some. But really it's normal, wait till you see the deathroll! :woot:

he probably just doesn't dig well or hasn't gotten a complete hold of it. It's kinda like saying when you do something that you've never done before you're not going to ace it right away
