I have read many post's where poeple want to keep Festae with other fish and the vote is alway's NO. Does anyone have an example of a tank where this worked! by the way show pic's or I won't believe you. lol

My 125 has festae, a gold saum, clown loaches and 2 belly crawler pikes.

I have a 180 with a festae...

It's a tad overstocked (working on it)

1 m midas
1 m festae (had 2 males)
1 male jag
2 male barred midas (for sale)
1 female barred midas (for sale)
1 female RTM
1 male convict

various bichirs

I had 2 males, but I didn't really have a need for 2 males, so I sold off the larger one for the smaller one to grow up. I've not had an issue with this set up, and it's been good for close to a year. I do plan on changing their tank a bit, and getting rid of the barred midas.

Thank's for the info and pics, I guess the female I owned was a particularly mean one. Thinking back that must have been why she had her own tank at the pet store. That's ok, I sold her to a guy who was very happy to have found a 6" festea. They're kinda hard to find here!

Personally, the appeal for me with festae is the breeding coloration you see in the female. I would prefer to keep a pair by themselves in a nice big show tank.

good to see some successful communities. i am looking into central american community. but would like to think i can have more than 1 fish in a 140 gallon. lol

You can definitely have more than one CA in that size tank, it really depends on the species, individual personalities, tank layout, breeding, etc. The thing with CA communities is you can never say something will work for sure, you have to just set some realistic goals (don't expect your firemouths to last with your dovii pair no matter what, etc.) and try it out.
Like I said, there's no way I would recommend trying for a CA community with a breeding pair of festae unless you have a MASSIVE tank (although it's not impossible, I can think of at least one member that has a pair in with some tank mates). Besides, a pair of festae is more than enough color and activity in a tank. :)
