Does anyone have a tank with discus and severums

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would like to see a picture of that myself. It would be a foolish combination long term. Severum aggression increases dramatically with age. Some varieties more than others. Only an idiot would try to keep expensive discus with more aggressive cichlids. :D

I have some discus with a fairly large gold Severum and they all seem fine. Infact I even have a firemouth with them.. but to be fair it is a very placid one and never bothered any other fish (unlike some I have seen). I keep the water at 28c and 6.8ph

I think people need to clean the slate with the old info about discus. Things have changed a lot and discus are far hardier than they first were when you bought wild ones. If you get some of the fish bred in europe they can be pretty tough, and have been bred in water that is very hard with a ph as high as 7.8.

When I put some bloodworm in my tank it is the discus who are first in there and push the others out the way..

I think they'd hog the food from discus. Severums eat fast, discus eat slow.

maybe I have super discus then, as soon as they hear the plop of the bloodwork they dart across the tank and are eating like pigs. I will have to try and get a video clip or something as it is fun to watch.

Right now I have my discus with two large wild urau they are both an easy 8 inch and was wondering the temperment dif from uaru and severum.

From what I have read they are very similar, if anything the Uaru are slightly less aggressive.

I have a young Uaru that a had from when it had the baby spots. It is still only abuot 3" and very placid.
