Well, I picked up what I thought was a firemouth back in August of this year.

I neglected to notice that it didn't look like the common firemouth because it had blue spangles. So it occurred to me that it might have been a crossbreed.

Nope, it was a [SIZE=-1]Thorichthys ellioti, or some websites call it the Blue Firemouth.

My question is does anybody have one? Are they the same as far as the Firemouth's nutrition requirements, tank size, ect?

I had a breeding pair a while back. I believe the current scientific name is T. maculipinnis, so you could also use that name to look up info on them. Their care is pretty much the same as the common firemouth

I picked up a group of juvis at my local fish club's auction... I think from Ken Davis...

The group showed fairly high intraspecific aggression and now I only have a pair...

I have heard from other’s that intraspecific aggression is common and males are typically very rough on females when spawning. My pair is in a 125 gal along with a large group of Geos (Steinys) as well as a handful of other fish. The pair (both same size) seem to work together very well at guarding the nesting site. They have laid eggs together but the large BGK (I suspect) invades the nest and the eggs have yet to hatch…

The red on the throat is not as brilliant as it is on a good looking Firemouth, but they still have red on the throat… They have far more blue and green refractive coloration than I’ve seen in any Firemouth.

I tried to go get a better picture, but as I turned my camera on the battery died… This picture does not capture nearly all of the refractive blues & greens…
