Just wondering if there are any comic fans on MFK.

I used to be a big collector and still have a lot of comics. Then for some reason, last year I got back into fishkeeping and re-started a new addiction. :)

I've been out of it for almost two years now. I moved and cant find a shop that I like. I was spoiled by my friends store in Orlando, all other shops are lame in comparison.

not me personally, but used to have a family friend that collected every superman comic since he was a kid... i remember seeing his collection once and it literally was 2 maybe 3 walls covered in comics from floor to ceiling... pretty insane sight

I've collected on and off all my life but, most heavily during the late 80's/early 90's indy boom. As I was just reminded when I had to clean out my storage unit of comics and action figures. All of which are worth bupkiss:(

i have a cousin that used to collect

he's got a chess about the size of a 55 gallon tank full of comic books

i read Spawn 1-100 from him. i used to know everything about spawn up to that point but that was like over 10 years ago

I thought Florida was a great place for comics? I know there are a couple big comic shows in that area. I live in L.A. and we still have some good stores. There are a few great comic conventions that roll around SoCal every year. Obviously ComicCon, but we also have smaller weekly and monthly shows where I used to load up on comics that were a few months old for 50 cents each. After I found out about all the great deals I could get for pretty new comics from shows, I stopped going to comic shops because I couldn't afford it. Screw those $3.99 cover prices!

Yeah, I have over 200 Archie comics.:)

Oh awesome. My friend collected Archie too but I never really got into it.

That must've been amazing. I saw an article recently where an early issue of Action Comics feat. Superman sold for $200,000. And it wasn't even the first appearance of Superman. Wow if I had a Superman collection like that, I would sell it, buy a new house and buy a 2000 gallon tank!

My friend was a big collector in the early 90's too. I started after I finished college in 2000. He had all these comics that were worth serious money back in 1993 like the Superman Death Issue (platinum edition), X-Men 1 signed by Jim Lee and a bunch of Spawn #1's. He even had Beavis and Butthead #1 and he said it used to be worth $10! Now all those comics sit in his garage. I'm trying to sell all my comics while I still can.

I now buy mostly TPB's instead of individual issues. I moved and don't much care for the shop around here.

I know what you mean. Single issue prices are crazy expensive now. When I first started collecting in 2000, prices were $2.00 or $2.25. Now many issues have a cover price of $3.50 or $3.99! I think I decided to quit buying new issues when one day I came home with a few new comics, read them in the bathroom, and finished each one in about 10 mins each. I think with new comics, the price doesn't come anywhere close to the entertainment value you should get. For the same price, I could rent a few DVD's. I only bought comics from comic shows at a deep discount (50cents each). I'm really glad I got back into fishkeeping because it's a much more enjoyable hobby and you get a lot more for your money than you do in comics.
