Where am I supposed to find lighting fixtures and hoods for this? I recently aquired one and it has two cutouts at the top. I have searched google but cannot find anything specific.

I did hear a light cannot be placed directly on top as this will melt the acrylic. So for those that own this type of tank what do you use? Recommend?

plenty of people with acrylics here. a pic of the top of your tank would be a better source so we know exactly what you're looking for b/c these acrylic tank tops can be built very different depending on who makes them

its made by tenecor. its the standard two openings that come on rectaangluar shaped aquariums. it looks just like my seaclear however the seaclear comes with a light and hood and I cannot find another one just like it by itself. they only come with the tanks

I installed a four foot track lighting strip and two 50 watt halogen lights over my 350 in the garage. It works well and also creates a neat moving dappled light effect with the surface agitation within the tank that makes it appear very natural.

Here is the style that I am talking about. Where can I find a hood and a light strip for this type of setup

Build a canopy and use shop lights. There are tons of styles of canopies out there. Here is mine. I've seen some really cool ones where the front panels are doors.

I just went to Lowes and found the thickest acrylic sheets I could find. I ran a bead of silicon around the edge of the opening and let it harden then set the sheets on that.

The idea behind the bead of silicon was to creat a little dam so condensation is contained. But the acrylic sheets have since bowed so the condensation runs down to the center anyways. :)

I also used a hole saw and cut a couple of 2" diamter holes for feeding in the sheets.
