Does anyone know if a lone raphael (no tankmates, dim lighting, etc.) would come out of hiding more often?

I think it would be a pretty boring tank lol.
i agree. i had one in my 55 gal and it just came up dead. one of it's tankmates killed and half ate him. i never saw the thing. he'd come out once in a blue moon. they hide too much. of all the fish i've ever had, they hid the most.

I had one for a while. It hid unless it was dark or there was food.

But were these kept alone? I have a theory that a lone raphael would be much bolder than one in a community. I could test it myself, I suppose.

Give it a shot if you want! From what I've seen, it's a trait of the fish that they hide a lot. Definitely be worth seeing if it could be done though if you've got the time!

I suspect it will hide just as much! I can't remember ever not having a raph. I have one now who's about 7 inches - monster. It isn't vey shy and comes out soon as dinner bell rings. eats like a pig. sorry to hear about your loss. Very hostile/hungry beast to take on a raph.
