I am looking to purchase some small Peacocks for my fish tank and am finding it difficult.
Every canal, pond and lake around here has them. Should I just cast net for babies?
Are they illegal to purchase? Keep? what?
I can find very little online about it.

They are totally LEGAL..you can own them.

Just grab a rod and reel and catch a few trade it in at a LFS and get some babies online haha
How does taking the wildcaught bass to a store allow him to buy others online,he probably won't get any money for them?

It was just an idea but realistically you probably will get a few bucks for them since they know they're in canals and such. If you sold them online you'll make a good profit like on here...lol

In chicago I know my LFS will give you 40-50$ anything above 10" on peacock bass since they sell it for 150-200$.

Its a rare commodity here so supply and demand will depict your payout.

If I was in Florida I would be selling on aquabid....

I misunderstood when I read "get some babies online".I thought you meant use the profits to buy some other cichla.I'm so used to shops only offering store credit I did not think anyone payed money anymore.

The ones here are CICHLA OCELLARIS.
I've never caught one in a cast net or with a rod and reel that wasn't already too large to try to acclimate into a 100 gallon tank.
I want some babies. Maybe up to 5". Maybe 3 of them.
O.K. so it's legal! Great! Who has some?
I'm in Sunrise Florida and I'd drive 30 miles or so.......

I was looking online because everyone local is "sold out" or no longer available or one of the less colorful variants.

Two Florida names you could look into are Discus Origins who is a member here and Snookn 21 who usually lists on Aquabid.
