Does anyone know what kind of Peacock Bass I have?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a 2x2x6 125 gallon aquarium. I've got a feeling my tank is too small.....

24” wide aquarium should be a while before you will need to upgrade monos definitely get pretty big. Looks like your guy is 7-8” or so?

Yes he's 6-8". I will not be able to upgrade to a larger tank. I was hoping it was one of the smaller of the species, but that isn't looking like that's the case. How long am i roughly looking at before, tank size is going to be an issue. I paid 79$ for him and I doubt the LFS will take him back for what I paid..... I'm not sure what my best option would be in this case, I want to make a responsible decision here.

On the basis of practical fishkeeping, you will be able to keep him comfortably without getting an aquarium upgrade even when he is fully grown. Your tank is a good size (6') so don't worry. Also, you are not over stocked.
Now, the more sugar you add, the sweeter your lemonade. So there is no end to upgrading a tank for monster fishes.
So don't worry about selling him at a loss, and keep him.

Just to clarify. A 125 is 72”x24x18 roughly.
A 72x24x24 is a 180
If your tank is a 125 I don’t believe that it will be adequate for a fully grown peacock especially if there is other stock in this tank.

Looks like oscar, parrot, jag , tiger mota, convict, Bichir? And A couple others cichlids I can’t tell exactly what they are ? and Alligator gar which alone can grow to 6 to 8 feet!
I recommend you thin the stock out tremendously.

Farmie mono but I do not agree realistically a mono or ocellaris could be kept in a 2x2x6 and especially not a 72"x18". If you've ever had a bass over 16" youll see how monumental they are. However, the real concern is how messy they are. 9 times out of 10 you'll have water quality issues before your fish gets too big because of how messy they are. 125 gallons of water isnt going to handle the waste for its entire life. However, you do have some time to figure out what you want to do. Id assume you have 6 or 7 months before you start having really noticeable water quality issues.
