I want to repair a piece on the top cross support on my 55gal tank. Does anyone know of a glue or adhesive that I could use that is not harmful to fish, and strong enough to hold.

Silicone is awesome for replacing broken parts. But before you go fixing things, what exactly is broken? Is it the plastic trim around the top of the tank? If it is, then you can buy a replacement piece for about $15-20. It will be an easy fix.

Super glue is fine for the fish there is NO "claim" IT IS SAFE. They even use super glue in the hospital to glue open cuts.

Glass or acrylic tank? What exactly is broken/cracked?

I would take a small piece of ABS plastic or acrylic and fasten it to the broken part of the brace with either rivets or nylon machine screws (and epoxy)
