Does anyone make a living working in the aquarium industry besides LFS owners? If you do share. Im tired of working a job that i hate. I want to make money doing something i love. I am starting a business that puts educational fish tank in classrooms but its not enough to make a living off of. So please share.

honestly, i would just a higher paying job and buy more fish.
same advise for artists, if you like art, you should be a banker, not a painter

yeah, I breed fish but I can't live of it by any means(yet!). I think there is definitely money to be made in the industry, issue being there aren't any real jobs as you have to be an independent business owner to make any real coin even then its extremely competitive. Good luck, many people on these forms make money doing fish on the side but to make it a primary source of income is very difficult.

i learned my lesson about making a job out of a hobby....i liked riding motorcycles, i became a motorcycle mechanic, i no longer ride motorcycles as much.....i would keep the fish thing a hobby.

Working for someone else in an are of interest kills your hobby. I used to love landscaping and gardening, did that for a summer never returned. As I've launched into breeding fish it has been amazing but then again I do it cause I want to not because some one is telling me to. Soon as someone tells you how to do your hobby it kills it. I love designing and engineering things but working in as a grunt my field has almost numbed my mind to the process.

If you are interested in starting a business start reading literature to put you in the frame of mind to asses and develop the strategy for this.

Read the slight edge, cashflow quadrants, and the like and see if you can outline a plan that will generate value for you and your consumers.

If you read those two books and take in anything from them you'll be a richer person for it. It's amazing how reading books that point out obvious truths can be so monumental... then again that is the foundation of religion. Yes I'm a Catholic.
