I am trying to get my henlei pups to grow faster. i have been feeding 3-4 times a day with carnivour pellets ans shrimp. it does seem like they have dobled in thickness. Does anyone know if it can have negative impact on their overall health? the male is 2 years old, female is only 9months.

It depends on what you feed them.

I have a friend who breeds common tetras ect on a pretty big scale.

I remember that he tryed trout pellets with a high level of fat in them.

The result was very surprising.... and depressing.

The fish became deform and most dident live for very long. Their liver simply souldent handle the diet.

I myself use trout pellets ment to feed trout fry. They contain 90% protein! So far, I havent seen the problems my friend did. So I would stay away from the fatty foods. Just to make sure. ;)

I do not understand why you would want to do this, 3-4 times a day is easily enough, maybe too much?

If you over feed anything it will suffer from human babies to fish.

Yup. You can get away with multiple meals a day (not stuffing rays every time) but if by 'power feeding' you imply what is done with catfish or arowanas, etc. (huge meals) then not a good idea. Rays cannot handle overfeeding.

I also wanna share that rays may not even take excess food as I tried 'power feeding' one of my first rays and it just ignored the left over food after it was full. So the extra food just spoils the water.

Good luck with your rays.

With pellet feeding you will have to be careful because they can overdue it, shrimp and other frozen foods have alot of water and I wouldn't worry about a ray overeating. With your pups I would still feed 4 times a day but if you think your overfeeding cut back on the amount and not the number of feedings. Also pregnant rays will require more food so increase the number of feedings if you can otherwise you can really task your bio during one big heavy feed.

just to make it clear, i am not really stuffing them with food. just feeding 4 times daily. my female is much smaller and i would like them to be atleast the same size
