I've seen a few pet stores do this... Is there really any benefit for turning off your filter/sump before feeding? I know in my tank my fish don't have very long to get to the food before it hits the overflow, but at the same time they normally get all the food before it hits the overflow.
I imagine its actually really bad for bio filtration. I mean the stopping of the flow that keeps a sump wet dry or something to that effect going could potentially cause a crash.
I've heard of some people doing this, but I've never done it. Just seems like a waste of time. I understand that it's so the food doesn't get sucked away by any filtration, but it's just not worth the trouble to me, personally.

I do for flakes, not for pellets. the flakes get knocked down and settle to the bottom or sucked into the filter. pellets float back to the top giving the fish moving targets.
Sometimes. Just depends on what I'm feeding. Black worms get sucked into hob's pretty bad and carnisticks get sucked down the overflows. Sinking pellets (what I feed most of the time) usually go where they are supposed to.
I don't think being turned off for 10 mins is going to kill the bio bacteria tho.
I don't turn it off either. I love watching them go after the pellets. With aeration and a powerhead, it triggers their predatory instincts without live feeders.
