Hello guys. My quistion is simple. Does carbon filter out prime. I know that carbon filters out some medications. But i do not usually use products like this. And i either use prime, or the tetra black water on my tanks. I have two acc110's on my 75. One has a filstar prefilter half a sponge, and 4 boxes of fluval bio max to total 2000 grams or 2 liters. The other one i just got and i want to run another filstar prefilter, One and a half sponge, and 1 bag of carbon in it. But if it filters out the water conditioners that i religously use then im not going to. Like i said i dont usually use chemical products. Feed back from the pro's would be greatly appreciated. And thanks for your time.

Carbon filters out most every chemical... even trace elements in plant food. I can't imagine that Prime would be an exception to this.

No, it doesn't filter it out.

Prime reacts to chlorine and chloramine very fast. Even if carbon does absorb it.
By the time it reaches the carbon in the filter, it would have already binded to the chlorine.

Prime has a whole lot more in it than just dechlorinater...

Thanks for the responces guys. Still not real sure. If this is a yes or a no. Or if the topic is just going to start arguments Lol. Any ways thanks any one else have an idea. Or no for sure. And as allways thanks guys

I do not run carbon in any of my tanks. However i have a lot of driftwood and like the tannin look. If you use carbon with the blackwater extract you are wasting money for the carbon will clear it up.

Most places are turning to chloramines instead of chlorine now. But i am unsure if the carbon has any effect to the prime before/after it breaks the chlorine/ammonia bond(assuming it's pretty fast).

If your PH is low be careful and use more prime than normal. When the bond breaks you could have an ammonia spike. I would say either ditch the carbon, and/or setup a water holding tank and add a bubbler and prime. Just make sure to check the ammonia level before adding to tank.
