I recently got an eclipse catfish from one of my friends, and he has some pretty bad scratch marks on the back of his tail, probably from being with cichlids in the past. He's in one of my tanks now and seems to be doing well, with some strange swimming. I've heard a lot of weird things about catfish so I'm just trying to get it straight: Does catfish skin heal?

Yeah it'll heal. Keep that water clean. Also epsom salt seems to help prevent fin rot and infection so a 1tbsp/10g in the tank could be useful.

U mean regular salt. Epsom salt is a better choice for a laxative.

I meant epsom salt. Personal experience. I used to keep a bunch of angelfish and bettas and they would get fin rot if their fins were so much as slightly nipped. Dunno why, my water's pretty clean. Some experiments with epsom salt made that go away. I now use it in all my tanks.
