Does ceramic mechanical media work good?

I have always liked sponges but cleaning them can be time consuming. I am trying to think of ways of modifying my Fx5 even further to accommodate ceramic mechanical media and be able to backwash the media as well without moving the canister.

I have never used ceramic mechanical media such as Eheim's media but I would like to know how well it works?

I have always had positive results. I'm not sure how well it would backwash though. Seems to clean somewhat easily.

I am thinking of adding 1/2" tubing in areas in the media which should have enough velocity to disturb the media and loosen the junk. ... maybe.

Anyone else.

I would think backwashing the media every now and then would be sufficient.

Same here. It would be much quicker and less messy to do so. Just need some fittings and ball valves to be able to do this.
