There are some hobbyist / breeders that believe feeding above will cause the black diamond white spots to turn yellow

some believe the spots color is solely dependent on the genes while some believe it is both diet and genes

What's your take?

this quite an interesting topic cause i was wondering the same before. I have a bd hybrid and of course the spots were kind of white/ yellow. but over time feeding pellets.. the spots turned completely yellow/brown. Im not too sure if that is the food doing this or just the genes itself tho. i hear from alot of experts that bds black gene is pretty dominate tho and bd or bd hybrids will probably end up black or atleast on the darker side regardless but the spots is something else all together.

some breeders say yes some say no... i was wondering if i can get feedback from raykeepers here

i presume if the genes are really good genes it may remain white but if it is just borderline, that is when the food may affect the color

and then there is another topic: does white tank treatment (WTT) increase the size of the spots lol

lol never heard of a white tank have effect on the "size" of the spots but more so on the base color.

Also curious to see if theres any food out there that will allow the spots to turn more white? lol

Genetics plays a role somewhat. To my knowledge shrimp has no effect on color. Color enhancing pellets will alter color. This has been proven. Once the spots are stained they will never be white again. This is part of the reason you will almost never see a commercial breeder using pellets.

SHARK13 SHARK13 but shrimp has beta carotene which is a natural color enhancer

Logically it should have an impact on the spots color?
