I just recently started feeding my cichlids feeders as a lil treat. I've had them and this bala shark for about 6 months, and the got along fine until the feeders ran out. They killed him and ate his eye balls. Or do u think it was because one of my cichlids I think had babys but I don't see any in the tank. But she did have like a lil blunge under her mouth for a few weeks so I think she had some baby's. IDk someone tell me what happened???:nilly:

It kinda makes sense. If they've never had feeders before this, maybe they just learned that other fish taste good. I would be careful adding any others from now on.

HELL YES it makes them more aggressive, it should make them act more piscivorous, ....... you get the point

What color were your feeders?.. And a Don't worry your Bala is much more healthy for your cichlids than the feeders were :)

How was the health of the Bala? He could have died of natural causes and was just eaten. In my african tank I have never removed a dead body because there usually isn't one. Some times a bare spine w/ some gill plates. I have feed fedder (sick or skiny danios and tetras from my nephews tank) fish in my tank and it seems the same few fish do all the eating. They have not shown any more aggresion since eating live or other fish. It could be that you have species that naturally eats fish and they got hungry.

You never said what kinds of cichlids you had other than the mouth brooding female. I am assuming you have mbunas. If so, why would you give them feeders in the first place? There are so many reasons why feeders are a bad idea. Your bala probably got sick from the feeders and died from it and then your cichlids found an easy snack.

If they were in fact Africans, they do have a bad habit of picking out eyes of other fish. WHen this happens, that fish is pretty much crippled, and further becomes an easy target. And as the others said, it could have had a bad day, and the cichlids took advantage of it.

As for the question, I don't know about feeders making fish more aggressive. I'll have to think on that one. I've had many feeder-eaters, and have varied the diets widely between feeders and pellets. I'd have to give this a general no, as an answer. I think a fish is pretty much what it is. Individual...

i think the answer would be no...i am sure the catching a swimming fish is good exercise ...however i only feed live feeders if i can't get a fish on pellets or frozen foods because of the health factor
