got a paroon shark with a missing gillplate, previous guy had him in a tank with oscars...does anyone know whether the gillplate will grow back?

Is this a deformity or injury? Any damaged gill plate will unlikely regrow.

its an injury...the previous guy had him in a tank with oscars. He's got tail and fin damage as well but i'm not too worried about that. That will grow back. Other than that he's a stunning pup

I doubt it will ever be normal. Depending upon the extent of the damage, it may cover over little, but the way it regrows, if it does, will probably not be flat. Keep an eye on if it is growing inward and possibly harming the gill.

Thanks Wet, you really know alot about aquatics. Hope he does recover, he started feeding properly lastnight...frenzied for a full 10 minutes. He must have been a handsome bugger before the abuse

As I reread this, I caught that you said its gone. Is it completely gone, or just partially? If its partially gone, then maybe some regrowth. I think (but am not completely sure) if its completely gone, its just gone.

Funny you should mention it, just sat and watched him lastnight...it's partially gone i think...will try and take some pics of the wound later when I get home
