I have a 3"-4" Jack Dempsey over natural color gravel. He is a very tan color but I can still see his colorful spots but they are not always visible. Will he get more of a permanent color with age and will he darken. Is it true the best colors come out with black gravel?

currently a 75. but I'm still on a 125 build that should be done right after i get out of school. right now the gar is by far the biggest thing in the tank. the lima and ornate are 5-6" and the parrot is 3". i have a fluvial 405 and g3 on it and two 20% weekly water changes. the JD is very colorful around its head and its body has tons of blue and gold but you can barely see it. there is plenty of real and fake driftwood, live and fake plants, any airiator, and rock cave.
