I have two penguin 350s on a 55, 12.7x turnover per hour. I have angelfish in there, and for some reason I've always thought that angelfish don't like too much flow...:O
They do like low water flow, but I think they can get away from that if they wanted too somewhere in the middle of the tank though. Are your filters spaced apart one far left and one far right?
I have two Penguin 200s, an ehiem 2026 and a maxijet 900 in my 60g in the garage and the fish take "turns" in the various currents. The waterfall current your HOBs make isnt the same as a concentrated current from a power head that forces the water. A HOB is just pouring the water back into the tank via gravity. Like pouring water from a cup into a vessel vs. spraying it in with a hose.
hehe i have 3600gph blowing around my 180 for my mahseers , and i feel like its not enough for them considering how they came from fast flowing rivers. So it really depends on what fish, and in ur case, angelfish, they arent the best swimmers, so my guess is , have as much as you need to keep the tank clean and not blow them around
Just keep an eye on them. Most species are perfectly happy with higher flow as they come from rivers.
Some weaker swimmers i.e. Angels and bettas aren't fond of heavy flow. But with your filters you should be fine. I have a HOB canister and I aim the jet down the back of my tank length wise to leave a calm spot in the front left which my betta hangs out in the community tank. You can try something similar by moving your filters to different positions IF you feel its a problem as its currently set. In the end its your call.
