Does hole in the head go away

I have a sunfish with a slight but worsening case of hole in the head. I stopped feeding it feeders months ago and I give it a varied diet. Do you think it's a water quality issue. I don't have a test kit but I have a diy trickle filter with a refugium. I do weekly water changes. So does this ever go away?

I am adding seachem stability to make sure my biofilter is cycled

I think it depends on how bad it is. I bought some blood parrots who had Holeinhead and it eventually healed after 6 months of good diet and clean water

It almost always is because of water quality, will leave scarring most of the time, and easy to cure with good water changing schedule, extra water changes, and a good diet.
