Hey guys, my Delhezi has had a fat stomach for about a week now, its obvious that its from him eating like a pig, but I don't really want to have to separate him from my community tank.

Obviously I will if I need to quarantine, but I have to leave food out in my tank because my big Ornates only eat at night.

He stays in the middle-top of the tank, im not sure if he is having swim bladder problems making it hard for him to sink.

Sorry for crappy pics, used my phone.

He does look like something is going on.
I have been dealing with something similar with my senegalus, but after treating for over a month it has not improved.
(see Treating Senegalus for bloat post)
I now thing it may be Thiamin Deficiency Syndrome.
What are you feeding your Delhenzi? Frozen foods high in Thiaminase is usually the culprit.
Changing the diet is a easy place to start.

Yeah I mostly have them eating tilapia and market shrimp so that would make sense.

I read over the article, I would guess that's not the problem, I use tilapia as a stable so the amount of shrimp "shouldn't" cause his problems.

I think I might go get a 10g to start a quarantine.

edit* If you look in the pictures, he has a deformed tail, it was like that when i bought him, could that attribute to his funky swimming?

Have you tried skipping a few days of feeding? I have a Polli that is just a pig so I cut back on feeding. She's just chubby now and not so bloated looking.

That's my next step, I have to go get a small quarantine because he is in with 8 other bichir and I don't really want to set up my 55.

When you feed it Tilapia, try cutting a slit in the fillet and stuff a pea in it. Give it a little more fiber.

Yep gonna try that, I read they were natural laxatives. I'll update when I get him in new tank and try the peas.
