Just bought him/her today. Only been in the tank for 3 hours. He/she is about 3-3 1/2". Paid $60 for it so better be a nice looking RT. I've never spent over $15 for a fish and I've had my heart set on a RT for a long time so I'm pretty excited about the red/dark orange to start showing. What's the best food I can feed him/her (sorry, haven't named it yet. Still thinking) for the best color outcome? The guy at LFS told me what they feed but y'all are my go to peeps so I decided to ask y'all first. ;) uploadfromtaptalk1399431383252.jpguploadfromtaptalk1399431414423.jpguploadfromtaptalk1399431451880.jpg

It's a female and yes still stressed. Let her settle in. IMO hikari, NLS, southern delight, should all be fine for her. Definitely add frozen krill which will help bring her reds out !

Great, I have tons of frozen krill. My hubby's African cichlids won't eat it. I think they got spoiled with blood worms. I have decided not to feed her BW, seems to make them picky. What is NLS? I have read that they need spirulina infused foods. Any suggestions on pellets infused with it?

How are you able to tell it's female? You are the third to tell me it's female and I'm just curious on what indicators say female? The guy at my LFS wasn't able to tell me one from another and he's owned this fish store for 20+ years.

It took me a long time to find one. My fish store I go to has had them all along but kept them in an area I never looked lol. Finally I just asked. This guys fish have never been short of amazing IMO. My hubby's Ruben Red Peacock that he bought there puts all the other Africans (bought from chain pet store) to shame.

Google new life spectrum, it's infused with sprulina. Don't know who told you they needed it... They'll be fine with out it. I know it's a female from years if expirience with Festae. But the easy indicators are the combination of blush in her body, dark first 2/3's of her dorsal, lack of spangles in fins.. Feel free to check out my profile for frstae threads and pics to help you. Also use the search engine on Mfk for question. It will help you with quick researchable answers
