Well ... does he?

they look like it's nostralls.
BUT ! just incase.
Is the hole indented ? and have fleshy tissiue hanging off around the edge ? it looks like it does normally hole in the head is further up on the forehead but it certainly looks like it could be .

add salt to your water and turn up the temp to about 80* 1 table spoon of salt per gallon of water your tank holds. and leave the salt water for abot 12 to 14 days

I'm not sure what you mean here ... aren't holes indented by definition? :)

Isn't this a bit much? I usually use 1 tablespoon for every gallon when treating sicknesses ... ? I was thinking of doing this, but don't wanna do it until I'm sure there's something wrong. I try not to use salt unless necessary, so that when I want to use it, It will work ... and I also don't think it's healthy for FH fish to always have salt in the tank.

Thanks for the reply!

indented what i mean is deep (sorry).

if you want to use less salt try 1 tablespoon per 2 gallons keepin the temp up at 80*

If you want a precautionary treatment try dosing the tank with Metronidazole, it is an anti-protozoal and won't hurt you fish or filtration.

Personal opinion ... No.

Prob not

It looks more like it has rubbed its nostrils raw, definitely not the usual start to Hith.

Thanks guys. This is sounding promising ... I'll post another pic when I have time this week.

nope, thats not HITH. I aggree that it looks more like he ripped his nostrils a little. Perhaps from digging. Oscars are clutzes

If it was, i wouldnt do 1 Tbsp per gallon, that is a bit much.

Treatment for HITH is simple. It just takes a while to heal.

I would do 1 Tbsp per 5 gallons.
Implement a more varied diet. Oscars get HITH when their diet is not varied enough.
Good quality pellets, beefheart, krill, worms, crickets
And i would purchase a vitamin supplement to add to the water or to the food.
Also, do water changes more frequently.

That should be all you need to do for HITH. It works, but it doesnt work fast, so be patient.
Metronidizole can help, but i'm one of those people that only use meds in my tank when nothing else works.
