I have an acrylic 50 gallon SeaClear dimension 36Lx15W

My stand that I used for my 45 Gallon tank has the dimensions 36Lx12W so if I place the tank on top of the stand the front and back edges will hang off about 1 inch on both sides.

Would I be able to place a sheet of Plywood (that has the exact dimensions of my tank) on top of the stand and then place the tank on top of the plywood?

I really dont want to go out and buy a new stand if I can rig up the one I have.

just add a piece of 3/4'' plywood 36''X15'' and you'll be good.

While adding the plywood will support the tank, you will need to be aware this will be top heavy and rather unsable.

So an extra 2 inches of plywood support so that the tank can sit flush makes that much of a difference?

Here are pictures of the stand and the aquarium on the stand. See how it slightly comes over the edges?

I would bring it out from the wall and add a verticle 2x4 or 2x3 at each end screwed in perpendicularly to the stand. this will give you the added length on both the top and the bottom. and then yes add the ply wood. make sure the plywood is flat all the way through and there is no protruding knots anywhere

acrylic tanks need support under the whole bottom. I think the sheet of plywood under the bottom would work, but perhaps it is not the best. A fairly cheap solution is to buy cinder blocks and 2x4's (plus a sheet of plywood) to make a DIY stand.
