Hello everyone,
My fishtanks had been running for months. I mostly keep Central-South American Cichlids. My water changes are every 2 or 3 days(30%) with Seachem Prime.
My water parameter on my fishtanks used to be:
pH 6.5, Ammonia 1.0 ppm Nitrite 0, Nitrate 0.
So, I decided to try Seachem Stability to help with the ammonia.
I just tested the water today again and I got
pH 6.6
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 5.0
Nitrate 160.0 ppm
Every fish are very active in my 3 tanks, but I would like to know if this a reaction to Seachem Stability. Does any one have any experience with Stability.
Thanks

Hi,

A few thoughts;

Do you test immediately after a water change? If your water contains chloramines the prime will neutralize this and bond the free ammonia. This will result in a positive ammonia reading. If not, then you have an issue where either your tank(s) are not cycled or the filtration is insufficient to deal with the bio-load. Any reading of ammonia or nitrite above 0 is simply unacceptable.

I would be very concerned that you're now reading high (toxic) nitrite levels. I would retest to confirm your results and if they are correct, then start some serious remedial action.

Note: This post is also in the wrong section. Moderators please move.

What did you test with? 160 nitrates may be a result of nitrate creep due to small water changes.

Stability is pretty much a dormant beneficial bacteria culture in a low-pH solution. I can't think of any way a tiny amount like that would cause a spike in Nitrates

For future reference you may get more accurate Information and responses if you keep to one thread on the same subject.
