I have a cascade canister filter, and the bump button is supposed to be pressed if air gets into the filter to clear it out according to the directions.
However, if air gets into the filter, pressing the bump button, even repeatedly, fails to evacuate air. If the filter is running fine, and you press the bump button, it actually sounds like it's INTRODUCING air into the system for a bit.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Your talking about the primer button. It sounds like that but if your intake is under water then it is not taking in air you are hearing water rush in. I have had to do this a few times when I do water changes and the water gets below the intake. When force water out you should see bubbles come out of the out put as well. You may have to do it several times. Just be careful not to get the primer button stuck down.
