I see this beautiful dolphin cichlid at store. Very dark blue.

I am not sure if this white coloration below fins is normal or if thd fish has some issues like rot or fungus.

Please advise shall I buy this or if this is a sick fish?

These cichlids fight non stop and tatter each others fins.

A healthy cichlid in good shape will not hold its fins to its body.

I am not advising either way though.

It does look more like tattered fins.

The fins are tattered from its tank mates, which doesn't surprise me considering what I see at the end of the tank. The dark coloration and patterning is from stress.

Thanks. I didn't understand this sentence:

"A healthy cichlid in good shape will not hold its fins to its body."

Can you please explain further?

Thanks. I guess no reason to concern then?

Thanks. You mean the buttikoferi? This dolphin along with some other cichlids came the very same day when I took the pic so maybe buttikoferi didn't have enough time to bully them and maybe they took the beating from where they came from. I seen one big buttikoferi in that same tank. I know these zebra stripes are very mean and nasty. I had them previously and they were ok as juveniles but they are just serial killers. I had to remove them from my tank.

Anyways, if these are tattered fins, maybe no need to concern and shall I buy it? It looks very beautiful. I didn't see such coloration (which you said is because of stress probably). I booked the fish already but thought to ask here. Don't want to add a sick fish to my tank specially when they gonna be the first fish because its a new tank.

I am going to buy some fish today so please advise.

Personally would pass on the African Dolphin Cichlid. The fish doesn't look healthy like what thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter meant.

No need to apologize. Clamped and tattered fins means something is wrong. Fins should never stay clamped against the body of the fish. It looks stressed and malnourished.

Thanks. I had my heart set on this particular type. We don't have all varieties of cichlids available here. I am unable to find frontosas ever. My first choice to have a frotosa tank. No money issue its just there is no availability. The moment I seen this blue guy I was like yeah I want tbis. I didn't ask for the price and asked the store guy that this fish is mine and booked it immediately. At home I watched the pictures I took and find these white color fins. I hope when I go to store this fish looks good. Otherwise I ll skip it.

Take your time and always do research prior. You did a great thing getting advice prior to purchasing the fish.
