:confused:my bichirs are well fed and they ripped apart my pleco. i know it was them because they are the only fish capable of doing that. they ripped a hole in the side and then ate it clean so there was only the skin left. on and the pleco was about 4'' and the senegals are about 7-8''

Well, apparently they were still hungry... they do that...

Is it possible the pleco was dead before it was gutted? While not really agressive predators like most preds a free meal is a free meal

Check the pleco's fins. If the caudal has chunks taken out of it, they may have attacked him, but it could be decomposing, too. Chances are it was already dead. The guts and eyes are the tastiest part of a free meal after all.

Sorry about the dead plec. Speaking of plecs, I bet you can get some pretty cool ones down in Brazil.

I have three plecos in there and so far so good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. In my tank the bichirs are afraid afraid of the plecos even though the plecos are only 3".
just need to point out most plecos will suck the slime coat of the bichir
not a good mix

i agree..i also think it was dead when it was gutted, upper jaw species dont have the same sharp teeth that the lower jaw species posses...

Same same.... None of my plecos can really stay more than 3 months in my tank. So now i transfer them out once the tank is clean

actually i have 6 plecos ranging from 3-6" and have no problem with any of them... sucking on slime coat of other tank mates only apply to certain plecos species -- common plecos often seen attacking tankmates and eating dead bodies
