I recently purchased a mushroom for my 60g salt tank . I was a little hesitant because I didn't think I had enough lighting to keep them healthy . Being my first saltwater tank I'm not very experienced with coral . I am running 2 t5's red wave color bulbs for 8 hrs a day .the first pictures is when I first put it in my tank as you can see it doesn't even cover the live rock it was purchased in and the rest of the pictures are the current ones.i have had it for only a week and as you can see it already covers the live rock it was purchased on .so my question is did it grow quickly because it's healthy or because it's reaching out for light ??? Thanks ...

Kinda looks like a Ricordea in one of the pictures. Is that how big it was in the tank where you got it from? Mushrooms dont need alot of light. Do you have any idea what your WPG is? Im assuming if you only have 2 t-5s you have about 78w total. You should probably think about upgrading your lighting either way. Scrap the color bulbs too and get 10000k or around that rating.

Actually i bought it so small i dont even know what type of mushroom it is lol. the first two pics are from the day after i bought them .I have two T5's and its a 60 gallon tank so my guess is 1.5 WPG.I will upgrade my lighting but unfortunately my money is a little short right now .I am a beginning salt water hobbyist would you mind telling me what is the difference between the red wave T5's and the 10000k bulbs ?? thanks

A red wave bulb is for growing plants not for coral. A 10000k bulb gives the coral the right light frequency for optimum growth. Looks like a good pickup though!
