Hello all,
for lack of a quarantine tank (now remedied), I have a tank infected with ich. It may be "super" Ich as
salt, heat, and Kordon's Ich Attack have had no effect whatsoever.

So, question: From experience, does anyone know if treating Ich with Formalin and Malachite Green affect the Nitrifying Bacteria? My tank is cycled and I really do not want to have to deal with all that again.
I have AP Quick Cure with those two chemicals in it.

Thanks for the help.

How long have you been treating the ick? From when I have treated ich it can take a week or so before symptoms go away. I have heard a lot of treatments can affect bacteria, but cant speak from experience about that.

And dont forget to keep treating the tank after symptoms go away. I have heard as long as 3 weeks for the parasite to completely die off once visible symptoms subside

What was the temp you raised it too? I've used 90 to 92 degrees and had success. I have never used a Med for it so I can't help you there.

Ive always added salt and kept temp around 88 or so. I used rid ich once but ich came back later. Hope that helps

Those chemicals will definitely affect the biofilter, make sure to add extra aeration when using formalin. I would avoid it if possible and keep trying with salt and higher temperature
