I know there cold blooded and i just got him a repti glow uvb bulb today for the heat lamp, though it looks like one of the energy saver ones ( with the twisted design) it doesnt seem to throw that much heat off of it, i can clearly touch it and hold onto the metal of the lamp.
Would he need a regular light for heat if i have a heater in the water???

Cleaning the 125 gallon tomorrow and he should be in there by the end of tomorrow, you think he will do fine in the 125 at the size of a half dollar???

Typically heat lamps are separate from UV lamps. They do make heat bulbs that do both but usually you have 2 separate lamps. So yes most need heat lamps, only ones that don't are fully aquatic ones like Softshells (although I could be wrong about).

Just go to petsmart and get a basking bulb made for a turtle.. they are like $6.

They need the basking/heat bulb as well as a UVB bulb.

If you want 2 in 1- spend $40 on a mercury Vapor Bulb. They are worth every penny.

You will need to set up a household spotlight on the basking are also. The water needs to be warm, but the basking area needs to be warmer, otherwise the turtle will not bask and get any use out of your shiny new UVB lamp :)

Best,
Paul

It depends on the species of turtle.

Right above me. Depends on species

if i remember correctly you have a painted turtle.
so yes, you will need a bulb that produces heat in addition to the uvb bulb.(the bulb you have is the same i use for my turtles)

personally, id do a spotlight from like, walmart or home depot. super cheap, and work well.

I agree. If it is a painted you will need a spot light. No need to spend extra money at petsmart as long as you already have a UVB light.

I do think that the household flood lights use a lot more electric.

Reptile heat lamps are the exact same thing just in a different more "natural" wave length.
