does ur rays new stinger grow on top or bottom?

i just noticed this today when i was down in the fish room.

my 2 reg motoros have their new barbs coming in underneath their old ones.

my marble and my peru weird spot motoro have their new barbs growing on top of their old ones.

does anyone know if this is a species thing? or does it vary from barb to barb?

i thought it was odd that both the reg motoros were the same, and the other two were the opposite.

It grows from underneath and pushes the top one out.

My female's last one came in below, the male's came in above.

My rays shed their stinger alternate.
And the new stinger is growing where the last stinger was shed.
I observed it like this:

- stinger shed at top
- new stinger grow at top

- stinger shed at bottom
- new stinger grow at bottom

and so on ...
