I have a 100w Metal halide that I'm thinking to put under my hood for my 125 gallon. The light is bright like hell, so do I still have to follow the WPG rule?

yeah :( believe me i tried it it didnt work 10 watts on a 10g and all my corals withered and died. but put that on a 20g and you got a nice nano reef... you could even keep clams and acroporas

its not a simple answer. 1 100w will give you one bright spot and the rest of the tank not much light at all. right under the light you prob could grow like medium light plants but on the sides if you can get java fern anubias to live you are lucky.

i wouldnt follow the wpg but look about getting even amount of light over the tank.

I don't mind that because most of my plants are located in the middle, of the tank and most are low light plants.

Just remember the higher the light the more nutrient up take it has. You may find that your plants go into over drive and you will have to dose Nitrates and for sure have C02 dosing the tank. If your not careful you can also burn your plants with that much light. I find the 10,000k T5 bulbs do wonders and you don't need to go too crazy with them.

the 100w metal halide outputs only 10,000k so I think I'll be fine. the fish in the tank are carnivourous so I'm pretty sure they'll provide plenty of nutrients

I took a look at my bulbs and they are 175W M57 bulbs which I think are rated for 14000k
