I was wondering if anyone elses dats don't like the light. When I turn the light on my tank, all my dats run and hide. My 1.5" thinbars don't seem to be bothered by it as much as my 4.5" indo. As soon as I turn on the light my indo gets dark and hides in the caves. He doesn't stablize until I put food in there or turn the light out.
Anyone else have this problem?

I have problems with some of my small indos and the light. It isn't unusual. My other Dats do not mind.

It takes some time to get used to it. I started to turn the lights on right before I started to feed them. Now, everytime the lights are on, they all come up to the front of the tank ready to be fed..

Great post. I will try your feeding technique. I feed in the mornings before I turn on the light and at night after its turned off. I guess I will try the opposite way of doing it.

By the way, how many hours do you run your light? If I have to work at nine, feeding starts at 830. Then at night, its at 9 or 10 p.m. That's 13 hours of sunlight which in my opinion is too much.

The smaller the datnoide, the more nervous or scared it will be. The larger the dat is, the more secure it feels and therefore will swim around with lights on or off. I have never seen a large dat that is scared of light.

Definitely true. If anyone has seen jlnguyen's tank will agree with me.

i think my indos would rather starve to death than eat with the lights on, but then they are still kinda small...

My dats hide in the darkest spot of the tank ALL DAY long.
They only swim at night, and are only stable at night/feeding.
