Hi everyone, just wondering if any of the knifefish owners have seen/had this similar problem. i have heard of a few people owning these species have had the same issue i do. My 17" Royal clown knife loves to literaly destroy my aquarium on a nightly basis. He rips up the live plants and even up-roots them from the gravel, he moves the sunken wood or driftwood (what ever you call it) from one side to the opposite side, iv even had to replace a heater that he broke - luckaly did not hurt himself in the process.

Does anyone else with knifefish expirence similar situations like these? Please post your thoughts and comments.

My Gold Clown Knife likes to move his wooden hiding place a little but not to far.... don't have any plants but he'd probably try to do the same if I had any for him to uproot and stuff.

Sounds like the same issue my Flowerhorn has, he thinks he's a better decorator than me so he moves EVERYTHING except his flowerpot thats too heavy for him.
I think some fish just move things around to suit what they want. I've learned with my FH that he will leave things alone for the most part if i just let him decide where to put them and leave em there. You might try that with you knife, leave things where he puts them for a day or two and see what he does.
Gotta love the personality of some fish lol.

Iv done that before (just leave it where he puts it, but ends up making a mess) my real concern was HOW he was movingthem. As he was flashing and scratching on the plants to move them. No signs of ich or disease, but fish dont have arms, so you figure they move things the only way they know how, swim right into the damn thing. Hes dome this since he was about 8", now hes a healthy 17".

My 22" Aba Aba "re-decorates" the tank every night.

mine did the same things.he hated tank decor so after months of him doing it i finaly removed all but his hide and has been happy with his tank since.

My royal knife broke the thermometer. He also uprooted many of my plants. I think he does it overnight. I might set up a camera.

my aba has made himself a "den" and as long as I don't mess with it he generally leaves the rest of the tank alone. only when I tried redecorating the tank did he show me the folly of my ways.
