Mine does, he gets all spunky sometimes and shoots across the front of the tank then goes back to his spot and digs and shakes his head. I will see if I can film and post to you tube. He seems happy and is still pretty young (6-8 months) so maybe just hormones (if fish have those?)

Anyone else have experience?

Mine comes up to the front glass when it sees me. It dances around a bit, waiting for food. He has been digging a lot for the last week but no head shaking like you described. He doesn't dart around the tank either.

my rd dose not do it but my cyano dose when ever i get my face by the tank it gives me head shakes and spits rocks at me. my roommates always laughs because it only dose it to me

mine bangs the glass so hard u can hear it from the other room bits the net or trys to bit my hand at water changes lol kinda sucks cus it freaks me out lol

^ Agreed. Most of my adult cichlids have done that behavior, even when alone. They're feeling frisky. :)

Horny little bugger. Funny too, whenever i clean, he goes for my hand. I have played the game of cat and mouse with my hand and he usually is playful, but if i move gravel back after he has moved it, he will get pretty agressive. Otherwise, I can usually pet him, sometimes even cradle him in my hand. mMost wonderful personality of the many different kinds of fish we have had.

My Midas has done this. He went through a month this spring where he had dug a huge pit and would exhibit the head shake and almost stopped eating. During this time he was so aggressive that he would bite my hand if it were in the tank. I had to wear a heavy glove for water changes!
