I'm not sure if this is the best thread or forum to be asking but anyways.. My mom is allergic to some dogs. Some don't bother her but some do. She has asthma and is set off by the smell some dogs give off. Saliva doesn't bother her but some dogs hair and dander does. Its weird because poodles bother her but our basenji doesn't and neither do labs. I want a Rhodesian ridgeback so bad but I still live at home. I have been given permission to get one as long as my mom will be okay with it and not react. I have found them to be very similar to basenjis in the sense that they have minimal shedding, low dander, very low salivation, and they really don't smell. If I keep the ridgeback clean as often as possible, do you think my mom could handle it? I'm going to have her be around it before buying of course and test it but I want to see what people think before i make the several hour drive just to test.

Having your mom around the dog will be the best answer but don't count on it. What do you mean by as clean as possible? Over bathing is detrimental to the dogs skin. Might be best to wait as reactions can also manifest after prolonged exposure. It would not be fair to you our especially the dog to get it and then have to give it up soon.
