Dog food for savannahs?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
im not sure i'd stick to scrambled eggs, cooked chicken, and mice for a savannah but if it ate it and enjoyed it what the hell let him eat it

Well they don't eat dog food in the wild so I'd have to say it's not the best food for it. It definitely shouldn't make up a bulk of the diet. Wait for varanio to chime in.

Don't feed very much of it, or better yet, stay away completely. All but the top brands of dry dog and cat foods are cereal-based, with low animal protein content but high carbohydrate content. That's not what an obligate carnivore like a Savannah monitor should be eating. Nor is it what a cat should be eating for that matter--they're obligate carnivores as well, and cheap/lousy cat food is the reason there are so many unhealthy and overweight pet cats.

Don't feed it dog food.... Dog food is for DOGS.

Feed your Savannah monitor tons of bugs along with small rats.

yeah sure they eat it in the wild, it comes from the dog food trees XD *Insert MS paint pic of dog food tree made by Jay*

Savannah Monitors eat BUGS! ,also lean turkey mince, the OCCASIONAL dead mouse. So many of these lizards die prematurely of kidney failure due to too much protein in their diet.In the wild they eat mainly millipedes, scorpions etc.So NO dog food!
