So I let my larger new world cichlids try some Iams mini-chunks. They really like it. I'm not planning to make this a routine or anything, but I'm curious if anyone has tried other pet foods with their fish and what some of the draw backs could be.
It will leave a lot of extra waste in your tank. Your fish will pass most of it out without absorbing much nutrition from it. A once in a while treat may not be too bad. Feeding on a routine basis will be more work for you and less nutrition for your fish.
Right. Many foods are fine as an occasional treat. I gave my Oscar a piece of dog food once after doing a little reading on it. I was surprised by the loud crunching sound he made when chewing it up. So I did it once more for my brother-in-law to hear, then never again. The stuff feels greasy. I just picture fat deposits all over his little liver and it's easy to hold back.
