I couldn't help myself. I ended up buying a senegal bichir today for my 55gallon. I have green terror in there with some dithers. He's always left non-cichlids alone. The thing is, he's been nipping at the bichir whenever it hangs out on the bottom of the tank! Not really being aggressive, just nipping. The GT is maybe 5" and the bichir 4", although the bichir is small. Also, the GT leaves it alone unless he spots it lying on the bottom. I should note that I'm pretty certain I saw some people who have GT's and JD's with bichirs in the same tank. Should I move the bichir to the 38 gallon I have until it packs on some size, or what? Advice?

Yeah, better not chance it. Since it's only four inches, it probably couldn't eat more than a guppy...
After watching the tank, I've decided to move the senegal into my 38 until he gets bigger. I have a feeling that the GT will grow faster then the bichir, and want to avoid problems. Better safe than sorry, right?
GT's grow pretty slow. You would probably be fine if you gave it more hiding spaces and maybe even lowered the temp a little, but it's always better to err on the safe side like you did.
